Food and Fireworks

Last night was the International Pyrotechnical Show in the Olympic stadium which we could view from our balcony. So Lena had us throw a party, we made some really great food and the fireworks were cool. We made:
  • 30 Deviled Eggs
  • Jambalaya
  • Salad
  • Bratwurst with bread
  • A friend brought potato salad that was amazing
As well, a few days ago Melanie had her birthday and her parent's were still here so they took us to this nice restaurant near a lake that had a beer garden. My dish, Wiener Schnitzel. It was huge! and 18Euro...but Melanie's parent's were very kind and wanted us to have a non student budget dinner, so they payed.
Wiener Schnitzel (from German Wiener Schnitzel, meaning Viennese cutlet) is a traditional Austrian dish and popular part of Viennese and Austrian cuisine, consisting of a thin slice of veal coated in breadcrumbs and fried.

Also my favorite pastry here is the Nuss-Nougat Croissants!

Had to let you all know about the foods recently. Updates later.

6 Days--Today

Since my last post 6 days ago a lot has transpired. I've seen, taken pictures, traveled alone, shopped, built another model, witnessed and became part of a station black out at Friedrichstrasse!

I've fallen in love with European clothes...ok maybe just back in love, I get to buy them and not just see them now. Everything here fits me, has great design, is not that expensive, and allows me to blend in.

I've made another model for that facade, this time using a foam cutter (heated wire) and it is much more precise and refined than the last.

I went to the park by the river near the flat and there are some really odd sounding/looking ducks. The "POP" at the beginning of the video is their duck call! They wouldn't do it anymore once I started video.

Time goes by, and the experiences are great. I feel at home.

Today is Sunday, therefore nothing is open, or at least very little...unlike America, they kind of take a day off. Today is also very rainy/misty and about 60*, cold. I'm wearing a new H&M sweater. I've just chilled at the flat because of how much running around the city I did yesterday, and the fact that my model is done, and things are close. I'm going to the firm at 6pm for our first meeting of the semester.

There are about 70 new pictures on my Flickr of around Berlin. Should be pages 1-4 in the BERLIN SET. Starting with the picture of a kitchen builder (blocks) titled "IKEA"

Updates later!

Modular, Model, Flea Market

Berlin is great. There is an awesome architectural supply store called modular that has an amazing selection of model building supplies, notebooks, sketchbooks, papers, anything you can imagine. It puts Kennedy's to SHAME! I got some great things from there today. 32 Euro.

I've worked on a model most of the day that I've been working on for about 2-3 days already...here is its current state.

Yesterday we went to a flea market where I got some really cool postcards 1 Euro, a hat for 7 Euro, and a big photo print for 5 Euro. Stoked about this stuff!

New Pictures are Up!

Pictures from the past two days are up, didn't take any today because it rained and was gray all day. Have yet to do much site seeing, just taking it all in and going to the firm for the internship, and trying to get around and everyone situated.

More to come!

Berlin Photo Set

Enjoy!

Apfel Kirsch

I've arrived in Berlin and I've hit the 24 hour mark of no sleep. Could not sleep on the flight. The City is pretty amazing, pretty different, pretty challenging. Time here will help ease stresses of travel and ordering:) I'm at an internet cafe now and just had my first apfel kirsch (apple soda) very good, 2 euro.

Packing Turn Around

What a difference a day can make. I am almost done packing and feel confident I have everything in place to leave the country for 4 months! I realize that I am a HUGE organizer and get really stressed out when things are not in place...especially with such high consequences of an extended stay.

Things are looking brighter :)
